His prosecutor, Karim Khan, temporarily left his position, as a investigation into alleged sexual inappropriate behavior, conducted by his researchers, is approaching an end, judicial sources told Reuters today.
A statement is expected later today, stating that Han will receive administrative leave, a source at the prosecutor’s office said.
The prosecutor’s office was not immediately available for comment.
Han has denied allegations of inappropriate conduct reported on the court’s board last October.
When the charges against Han, NGOs, and members of the ICC staff were revealed, they asked the prosecutor’s temporary cessation of his duties for as long as the investigation was, but the prosecutor remained in his position.
Sources who spoke on the condition that they do not be named, told Reuters that Han spoke with UN researchers last week, what was believed to have been the latest interrogation of the accusations of an external investigation, a survey launched in December.
It was not clear when the research would be completed, what the result would be and what it would mean.
A source in the prosecutor’s office said it was not clear who would take over the duties of Han, against which the US government has imposed sanctions. The ICT has been ongoing investigation into war crimes both in relation to the Israel-Hamas war and the War of Ukraine-Russia.
