Snack is ceasing to be part of football culture for the worst reasons. The clubs are full.
Elche CF has already banned Snack at the stadium after Valencia CF ceased to sell it in the games. It is a shock with the longtime Spanish culture to leave sunflower seeds with your teeth and spit the shells.
The problem is that the “kites”, as the fans call them, are spoiling their benches – and that is expensive.
Elche, from the second division, complained in late April that the shells clog the sewers, spoil the seats and corrode the structures of concrete. And worse: attract pestsboth rats and the “rats with wings”, the pigeons.
“Massive consumption of kites in games has generated a structural problem in recent years: bark hill sewers and pipes; they deteriorate seats and affect painting and the finishes of various surfaces; significantly increase cleaning and maintenance costs; they attract rats and pigeons; and, above all, endanger the salubrity of the benches,” the club enumerates.
Already in 2023, Valencia CF suspended the sale of sunflower seeds in its historic Mestalla after the stadium suffered with a rated rated infestation related to peel residues. It is a snowball. Then the machines used to clean the dirt after each game bothers the residents, who complain. Now, those who want to cracker “kites” in Mestalla have to bring them home, with a trash bag to accompany.
For some fans, it is not justified. The snack is as popular as Paella and is part of football culture. On the other hand, an Elche fan asks more, in particular the prohibition of smoke.
