The President of the Republic, Marcelo Rebelo de Sousa, fulfilled his right of anticipated vote in mobility within the legislative elections of 18 May, in Vila Real de Santo António, last Sunday
The President of the Republic made, on Saturday afternoon, the usual pre-election speech. Marcelo Rebelo de Sousa appealed to the vote based on three reflections.

The President of the Republic was short and concise, in a speech based on what he described “Three very brief and direct reflections”.
First reflection: “The world of 2025 is radically different from the world of 2024. The return to the power of the current US President implied, in four months, huge changes in relations with Europe, Russia and China. Improvised in the international economy, greater responsibilities, for us Portuguese, for us Portuguese.”
Second reflection: “With the world of today more complex and unpredictable, not participating, not deciding, not vote makes even less sense than in other elections. It would be to get your head in the sand, be indifferent to the severity of the lived moment, to make it absent. How much we know of our daily lives, the absent ends sooner or later for losing reason and limiting the people, as the people, to cry on the spilled milk.”
Third and last reflection: “Voting at this time is to contribute to stability in the midst of an unstable world, saving long solutions of management governments, when until May 2026 there can be no new elections constitutionally, and allowing predictability without which confidence does not grow.”
“Portuguese, 50 years after the most participated election ever, Giving life to freedom, equality, solidarity, security, democracy and peace is also to vote tomorrow for the future of Portugal. Very good afternoon, ”he said.
This Sunday, the early legislative elections are derived. On the continent and the Madeira archipelago, it is possible to vote from 08h00 and until 7 pm. In the Azores, the ballot boxes also close at 19h00 (20h00 of Lisbon).
