After justice departs Ednaldo from the command of the entity, Reinaldo Carneiro Bastos enters the dispute supported by federations and clubs
The president of (Paulista Football Federation), Reinaldo Carneiro Bastos, confirmed his candidacy for the presidency of the Brazilian Football Confederation (CBF).
The announcement was made on Saturday (17.MAI.2025), after the summons of new elections scheduled for the 25th, amid the institutional crisis that led to the removal of Ednaldo Rodrigues.
Reinaldo’s candidacy cites the support of several state federations and clubs from the Brazilian Championship series A and B. Among the campaign’s main commitments are the recovery of the entity’s image and the adoption of measures aimed at transparency and the modernization of Brazilian football management.
The dispute takes place in a context of instability in the CBF. On the last Thursday (16.MAI), the court of Rio de Janeiro ordered Ednaldo Rodrigues from the entity’s command and appointed deputy Fernando Sarney as an intervener. The decision was motivated by legal questions about an agreement between the CBF, federations and leaders at the beginning of the year.
In addition to Reinaldo, other names are considered to take over the CBF. One of them is Samir Xaud, president of the Roraima Football Federation. Supported by 22 federations, Xaud is a specialist in Infectious Diseases and Sports Medicine and was elected president of the Roraimense Football Federation (FRF) in January this year. The leader would only take office in 2027, replacing his father, Zeca Xaud, who will turn 40 in charge of the entity in 2026. If the election at CBF wins, he will not take office in the state federation.
Born in Boa Vista (RR), Xaud is also a businessman in the health and well-being, owner of a fitness life-focused training center. Its performance in Roraima football includes the management of the local federation since 2023, seeking partnerships with companies and the government. In 2022, he was a partner of a company that provided medical services to the Roraimenses clubs by contract with the CBF. The leader also tried a political career as a candidate for state deputy in 2018 and to federal deputy in 2022, unsuccessful on both occasions.
The current crisis is another chapter of a series of disputes that have shaken the CBF for almost a decade. None of the last presidents of the entity got the mandate, and cases involving political interference, scandals and court decisions have been recurring.
