With Donald Trump we attend the ecstasy: individual, presidential, in the light of all foci. It is not a conjunctural fact, but of lethal structural effects for the market economy, additional to the perversion of democracy.
Two episodes have turned the eventual “conflict of interest” or possible “incompatibility” in direct corruption, behavior that is not only moral, but in certain circumstances, legal. And also subject to criminal justice.
The first was the White House conversion on advertising set, in favor of the business interests of its high employee, Elon Musk. Remember on March 12, when Trump shot a spot Musk’s car, when it crossed a strong image and sales bump. The friend-president announced that he bought one of his best cars: yes, paying his “full price”, obscene alibi ethics. It was the most obvious symptom of the privatization of the most symbolic public asset in the US.
The other is your trip to the Middle East. The coincidence that the preceding pilgrimage, in April, of his son Eric, executive vice president of the family business, is not random. The young Trump traveled to do private business at the same stage. And he made them with the same public leaders, and their subordinates – therefore distinguishes the individual sphere of the collective – with which his father would crown, weeks later, a series of public contracts, in armament, among other sectors. That are encrypted by hundreds of billions of dollars; even by billion.
But that trip leaves us another great symbol: the one offered by Qatar’s royal family (whose Eric Trump business complex had hired the development of a golf course) to replace the decrepit Air Force One. That is, the legendary presidential aircraft, the most filmed aerial gadget in the world. The scandal stone in matter is that the gift, of “private” family to president as a “private” citizen, is carried out with public excuse, in law fraud. The US Constitution prohibits leaders from receiving gifts from foreign governments. What will be raffled by delivering the new device to the Air Force, which at the end of the current mandate would give it to the Trump presidential library for personal use.
These venalities will be buried thanks to the judicial immunity achieved by Trump for their illegalities and fiscal, urban and sexual bribes. But they are freed from causing an effect-pavement, in cascade, towards other people and companies, inside and outside the country-survey.
And above all, to essentially cancel the right of competition, which constitutes the great buttress of the market, and consequently the main legitimizing argument of capitalism to dry. In addition to directly mocking the Constitution, a key to the regulations of the rule of law, and replace it with the “transaction” without other rules that the will of the autocrat converted into a new law. That is why the consecration of corruption destroys the system.
