The 40 -year -old Mentine, who works for the Dagens ETC newspaper, was arrested on March 27, when he arrived in Constantinople to cover the demonstrations that had begun the previous days, on the occasion of the arrest of Mayor Ekrem Imamoglou.
At the end of April, an Ankara court sentenced him to 11 months in prison for “infringement of the president”. Despite the suspensive nature of the sentence, Mentine remained in prison, accused of “participating in a terrorist organization”.
The journalist denies the category of Turkish authorities. The prosecution was brought against him because, according to Turkish justice, he participated in January 2023 in Stockholm in a demonstration of the Kurdistan Labor Party.
