PCC
Founded in 1993 in the city of Taubaté, 130 km from the state capital, the CCP is today the largest criminal organization in the country. According to prosecutor Lincoln Gakiya, the group has up to 40,000 members and moves about $ 6 billion per year.
Even after the CCP leaders’ arrests, such as Marcos Willians Herbas Camacho, the “Marcola”, the faction continued to expand its influence in and out of prisons.
The faction is mainly funded by drug trafficking, but cargo theft, bank robberies and kidnappings also contribute to the organization’s financing. It also acquired influence because of prisons in prisons across the country. In São Paulo alone, it is estimated that about 10,000 members are present in 90% of prisons.
In addition, investigators estimate that neighboring countries in Brazil, such as Bolivia, Paraguay and Colombia, have CCP’s “arms” in their respective criminal contexts, dominating drug trafficking routes. These “arms” follow guidelines, pay tuition and obey the orders of the superiors, following a structure that resembles that of a company.
