Pope Leo XIV directs the Holy Mass from the beginning of the pontificate, in St. Peter’s Square, Vatican City
Pope Leo XIV proposed, this Sunday, at the inaugural Mass of Pontificate, a united and missionary Catholic Church against an economic paradigm that “explores the resources of the land and marginalizes the poorest.”
“In our time, we still see too much discord, too much wounds caused by hatred, violence, prejudice, fear of the different, an economic paradigm that explores land resources and marginalizes the poorest,” he said Lion XIVin his homily on the commencement mass of the pontificate for which he was elected week and a half for the cardinals ,.
“Love and Unity: These are the two dimensions of the mission that Jesus entrusted to Peter ”, founder of the Church, began by saying the new Pope.
“I would like this our first great desire: a united church, a sign of Unit and Communionlet it become yeast for a reconciled world, ”Leão XIV told the thousands of faithful present and before various heads of state and rulers, including the Portuguese president.
After a Paparmobile route in St. Peter’s Square, greeting the thousands of pilgrims who joined to participate in the starting mass of Pontifica, Leo XIV asked for a “missionary churchwhich opens his arms to the world, that announces the word, that he is dismayed by history and becomes a yeast of concord for humanity. ”
“We want to be, within this mass, a small yeast of unity, communion and fraternity,” he said, promising an evangelizing church, a “way to go with the sister Christian churches, with those who travel other religious ways, with whom the restlessness of God’s search, with all women and all men of goodwill to build a new world where the peace reigned.”
In his first public speech, immediately after his election, Leo XIV had already requested a “Peace disarmed and disarming”. The Augustinian missionary has asked for a “missionary spirit” for the church he now leads.
“Without closing ourselves in our small group we do not feel superior to the world; we are called to offer everyone the love of God, so that the unity that does not nullifies the differences, but values the personal history of each one and the social and religious culture of each people,” said the successor of Francis, who named him Cardinal and Mayor of the Dicthary of Bishops.
Pope against wild capitalism
Leo XIV considers that the religious foundations of Catholicism are missing the world today and also recalled Leo XIII, the nineteenth -century Pope who inspired his name and was the Prosecutor of the Church’s modern discourse against wild capitalism and the defense of Catholic social doctrine.
Leo XIV was elected on May 8 as the 267th Pope of History, succeeding Francisco (2013-2025), who died in April.
Born Robert Francis Prevost in Chicago, United States, the new 69 -year -old has also had Peruvian citizenship after having lived most of his life and made ecclesiastical career in the Andean country.
