The first edition of the São Paulo Literary Cultural Virada – Lusophone Virada takes place on the 24th and 25th of May, as part of the 2025 schedule. He has fully held at the Mário de Andrade Library (R. da Consolação, 94, Republic), the event is open to the public and seeks to “celebrate the literature in Portuguese Language as a territory of meetings, resistance and transformation”, describes the communication of the Secretariat of Culture. Admission is free.
Curated by José Manuel Diogo and Tom Farias, the program has authors such as, Paulo Lins, Lucia Aparecida, Andréa del Fuego, João Silvério Trevisan, Antonio Prata, Giovanna Madalosso and More.
There are four conversation tables on Saturday (24), and one starting on Sunday midnight (25). During the dawn, there are slams and recitals with emerging poetic voices. The day dawns with the exhibition of the documentary “The grandfather in the living room: the light prose of Antonio Candido”, and a literary breakfast.
Throughout Sunday (25), there are seven more tables. The program ends with an interview by journalist Joyce Ribeiro with writer Itamar Vieira Junior, a conversation that will address memory, territory, resistance and the place of literature in the reinvention of deep Brazil. The event will also have parallel activities such as autograph sessions, book exchange fair, sensory facilities and video projections on the library facade.
The 2025 Cultural Virada marks the 20th edition of the mega event. More than a thousand attractions will be distributed in all regions of the city. Among the shows, held in 21 stages, are artists such as Iza, Alceu Valença, Sepultura, João Gomes, Vanessa da Mata and several others.
