At least two people died and another 19 were injured in the collision of a Mexican Navy ship with the Brooklyn Bridge in New York on Saturday night (17). The information was released on social networks by the mayor of the American city, Eric Adams.
“At this moment, of the 277 people on board, 19 suffered injuries, two of which remain in critical condition and two others unfortunately died as a result of the injuries,” wrote Adams.
The two dead would have fallen from one of the ship’s masts, as a local policeman reported to CNN. The victims died after being referred to a hospital near the scene of the accident.
The Mexican navy also manifested itself through X (former Twitter). “During the departure maneuver of the Cuauhtémoc sailboat in New York, there was an incident with the Brooklyn bridge that caused damage, temporarily preventing the continuation of the training cruise,” he said. “The situation of staff and material is being analyzed by the naval and local authorities, who are providing support,” added the post.
The cause of the collision will be investigated.
