Choosing the right used car can be hit by black. However, some models can surprise you, not only failure, but also by the price of repairs or poor availability of spare parts. In the article we look at cars that are better to avoid and explain why.
Today’s used car market offers a lot of tempting options and modern cars are generally more reliable than ever. In recent years, automakers have worked significantly on the quality of workmanship and technology, so even older cars can still serve well. Yet, not all cars age the same way. Some models are known for frequent defects, expensive service or poor availability of spare parts. So if you do not want the buying car to become a nightmare, it pays to know which cars are better to avoid.

The worst used cars on the market
Models that do not look bad at first glance occasionally appear on the used car market, but can bring more worries than joy with longer use or more detailed research. One of them is Opel Insignia from 2020. According to the German car club statistics, this model of failure of 19.5 per 1000 cars reaches a significantly above average number in the class. Most often, this model fails electronics, gearbox, turbocharger and cooling or starter battery. With the more expensive middle class, which promises comfort and reliability, such a balance certainly will not please.
The Ford Mondeo from 2020, which features 23.2 failures per 1000 vehicles, shows even worse results. The biggest weakness of this model is the starter batteries again, but there are often problems with the starter and fuel pump. Mondeo is not a novelty on the market, so it is an unpleasant surprise that even in the later model years the manufacturer could not solve some technical shortcomings. All the more annoying that it is otherwise a car with pleasant driving characteristics and plenty of space.
However, Toyota RAV4 from the same year is the total flop between used cars. Statistics include it on a complete tail of reliability with a value of 45.2 failures per 1000 cars. At the same time, it could be expected that Toyota as a brand with the reputation of long -term quality will excel in this area. Unfortunately, it is the RAV4 that there are problems with electronics and repeatedly failing starter batteries. Other models are also worth mentioning the Fiat 500L or Ford Ecosport, which offer interesting design and compact dimensions, but they are troubled by weak engines and low interior quality. As a result, they represent a more compromise than a really bargain purchase.
So what to watch out for when choosing a used car?
When choosing an older car, it is key not to succumb to the first impression or attractive price. It is always a good idea to check the specific model thoroughly, ideally according to reliability charts, experience of other owners and service history of a particular piece. At first glance, some cars may look modern and attractive, but long -term operating costs or frequent defects will make them a financial trap. Therefore, it is worth avoiding cars with poor reputation and prefer to reach for a proven model, which may be less interesting to look, but it will reliably serve you for many years.
