Carlos Alberto Parreira, 82, chops by Carlo Ancelotti in the Brazilian National Team. Fixed world champion in 1994, the former coach accompanied Miami, from the United States, where he spends a period with his family, news of the CBF (Brazilian Football Confederation) agreement with the Italian.
Carioca admitted that he would like to see a Brazilian in charge of the national team, but chased the choice.
“Good coach. And competence has no nationality. I would like it to be a Brazilian, but Ancelotti is very welcome to be a top coach. It has everything to do a good job,” he told the Sheet.
In an interview with UOL shortly before he was removed from the CBF presidency, Ednaldo Rodrigues stated that Ancelotti mentioned Parreira and the desire to find him up to the country. In 1994, in the World Cup decision, at Rose Bowl, in the suburb of Los Angeles, Carlo was an assistant to the Italian team led by Arrigo Sacchi, defeated penalties by Brazil of Parreira in the decision.

How did you receive the news of the hiring of Carlo Ancelotti?
I’ve been in Miami for a month, and I’ll stay another 15 days, but I’m following everything. Of course in Brazil the climate is another. I sent a message to Ancelotti, I like him a lot. I think it has everything to do a great job.
And what did he answer?
We haven’t talked yet. When I arrive, I will make a welcome visit.
Ednaldo said Ancelotti mentioned the desire to find him again. How did you get it? Do you keep in touch?
We had some meetings since 1994. Now I haven’t gone much, but I’m a member of the FIFA Technical Committee, so I gave many lectures, meetings … and he was always present. We built a good relationship during this period. And I, as a coach of the national team, with him running Milan and Chelsea, when he was going to summon a player, we always talked. We find ourselves many times and get along very well. Good coach. And competence has no nationality. I would like it to be a Brazilian, but Ancelotti is very welcome to be a top coach. Has great experience, is very respected. It has everything to do a good job.
Is it the best choice after failures with Diniz and Dorival? Would it be yours?
This is very difficult to speak. Quality and talent are complicated things to measure. Competence, experience and respect he has, in addition to all the credentials to assume the Brazilian team. There was no discussion, quite the contrary. I hope it works, our football needs. And this is not the first time the selection will be directed by a foreigner. I would like it to be a Brazilian, but he already has a range with our country, knows well. You won’t feel a stranger.
The possibility that he continues to live in Europe is discussed. Do you think this can be an obstacle to work?
I think the coach has to experience the country. It is better for Brazilian football and for him. I’ve had experiences in Europe, Africa and Asia and I say it’s always better on loco, there’s no way. He may come here, stay a month, or stay for a game, but it is important for the fan and the press that he goes to the games in Rio, São Paulo, Porto Alegre, Recife. Although they say that most players are in Europe, they need to know the characteristics, the essence and the fan.
These issues should be clearer on your arrival on the 26th.
Yes, we cannot anticipate things we don’t know. But he’s a super -care, always very receptive guy. So it has everything to work out. And is competent.
Regarding the removal of President Ednaldo Rodrigues from CBF, do you think this can disrupt the work?
Politics has nothing to do with the selection. I was a coach on three different occasions, totaling about ten years, and never a president or director was involved in my work. On the contrary, they only helped. Different people, different eras. When there is a coaching staff that has a respect, things work well.
So, don’t you believe this troubled political scenario can somehow reach him?
No, no, no. Football is not political, but technical. And it has to be technical, financial, logistics. And, of course, it is important to have the confidence of those who drive. I have never dealt with any situation like this, which has disturbed my work.
But does not bring any kind of fear or instability?
No, things are organized there. There is nothing to do with the coach in terms of logistics, human material to form the technical committee, and trips are all scheduled months before. Everything is ready. I speak of years ago, but it was all scheduled months before. We arrived and was already right. So, I think you will have nothing to worry about.
How was the repercussion in the United States the news of Ednaldo’s removal? Is it boring to see the name of the selection involved in all this?
It is not the best news, it was not supposed to happen, but I reaffirm: it does not interfere with the daily life of the selection. What a technician needs management is support, this is important. My colleagues who worked in the national team would think so too.
There is information that Ancelotti talked to Neymar and Casemiro. Would it be good to count on both in the first call?
We have to have this mix of experience with new things. It cannot be a team of veterans or young people alone. I think it’s good [esse diálogo]experienced players need to serve as a model. I worked with Neymar since I was young in the national team. For the group it is very good, only sum. And today, much more experienced and lived, it can add by the presence, name and quality it has.
