The opposition movement Progressive Slovakia (PS) wants to go to the parliamentary elections separately and is not planned to associate with other parties. This was advised by the leader of the movement and Member of the National Council of the Slovak Republic Michal Šimečka on Sunday program Politics 24 on JOJ 24. However, it is not a question of PS, but it is the responsibility of the parties that have percentages around the level of elevation.

“I think it is primarily the responsibility of political parties, which are about five percent and thus threaten their voices to fall. It is primarily their responsibility to take care of it. We as PS will help in that, whether behind the scenes or publicly,” noted.

Šimečka also criticized the current government. He thinks Prime Minister Robert Fico (Smer-SD) is no longer eligible to rule. He blamed him for not solving the problems of the country, but he was only dealing with himself. He called for a change. The PS leader regret the personal attacks of the Prime Minister on his person and his family. He described it as a subtle one. “It will not disappoint me or my family in any way and it won’t discourage me,” noted.

The alternative would be the government of PS, SaS, KDH and Democrats. It assumes that they could form a stable government with the partners. He fears that Slovakia would not be able to do it. “I want the alternative to endure. The whole of Slovakia is experienced how Igor Matovic ruled and how he acted as a coalition member. The experience tells me it will not be stable and it will fall after a month, two months and Robert Fico or other government will come again, ” added.

Foreign policy was also discussed. Šimečka commented on the Pfizergate case regarding the purchase of vaccines against Covid-19 in the European Union (EU). He responded to the decision of the Court of Justice of the EU that the European Commission (EC) had misled when it refused to disclose reports between its chairman Ursula von Der Leyen and the head of Pfizer. He thinks that the EC chief is to fully subordinate to the court decision. He intends that the process was supposed to be transparent and the case does not help the EU credibility. At the same time, however, it should be noted that many people would have died in Slovakia if the EC did not place vaccines for the whole Union. He noted that a reasonable political step would be if Leyen asked the Europarlament to express confidence.
