EU wants to establish defense partnership with Australia

The European Union has been trying to establish new security ties, fearing that the US of the new President Donald Trump to detach from Europe.

The European Union has indicated that it wants to establish a defense partnership with Australia, at a time when the European bloc seeks to shape a united response to war in Ukraine and other global crises.

“We consider it a strategic partner,” European Commission chairman Ursula von der Leyen told Australian Prime Minister Anthony Albanese during a meeting on Sunday in Rome where world leaders attended the inaugural mass of Leo XIV.

“We would love to expand this strategic partnership,” added von der Leyen, according to a video posted on social networks.

“We would be very happy if we could also develop a partnership like this in security and defense,” noted the president of the European Commission, referring to the “geopolitical tensions.”

For his part, Anthony Albanese said that Australia and the European Union will continue to “stay supportive with the Ukrainian people.”

“We also have shared values, which is very important in today’s uncertain world,” said the Australian Prime Minister.

The European Union has been trying to establish new security ties, fearing that the United States of the new Donald President Trump to detach from Europe.

In recent months, the European Block approached India and signed defense agreements with South Korea and Japan.
