Ceremony in Rio de Janeiro honors 111 personalities and 14 cultural institutions, resuming suspended awards during Bolsonaro government
Actor Ary Fontoura, host Xuxa Meneghel and humorist Paulo Vieira are among the 111 Brazilian personalities who will receive the Order of Cultural Merit on Tuesday (20.MAI.2025). The ceremony, which will take place in Rio de Janeiro, marks the resumption of the award after 6 years of interruption during the government of the former president (PL). In addition to the personalities, 14 cultural institutions will also be honored.
The honor, granted by the Ministry of Culture, is no longer delivered in 2019, 1st year of Bolsonaro’s term. Prior to the suspension, the awards had been held annually since its inception in 1995, constituting a 24 -year tradition.
The event will be attended by the President (PT), the First Lady Janja da Silva and the Minister of Culture ,.
In total, 125 honorees will receive the distinction, including the 111 individual personalities and the 14 institutions linked to the Brazilian cultural sector.
The ceremony of delivery of the Order of Cultural Merit again integrates the official calendar of recognition of the Ministry. The did not disclose the specific criteria for the selection of the recipients in this edition.
