The Indonesian authorities declared the highest level of warning as a result of the Lewotobi Laki-Klaki volcano eruption on Flores. The volcano spent the lava eight times over the past weekend and continued on Monday, TASR writes according to Reuters.

The Lewotobi Lakilaki volcano spewed Vulcanic ash to a height of 3 to 5.5 kilometers on Sunday, informed the head of the Indonesian volcanology of the Institute. “Our analysis has shown that the lewotobi volcano activity is still high, so we increased the level of warning from Sunday 8 pm local time (Monday 02.00 CES),” he said.

Eruption and warning

The images published by the Institute were visible to see the champion of the dense gray ash rolling from the crater. From the nearest monitoring habitat was heard during the eruption, a thunder with low to high intensity was heard. The eruption persisted on Monday, in the morning the volcano spewing ash up to 1.2 kilometers.

The agency stated that it is necessary to set a six -kilometer circuit around the crater in which people should not stay. The authorities of the inhabitants from the surrounding area also called on to wear a veil on their faces – as protection from volcanic ash. As a result of eruptions, there has been no evacuation of the population or the abolition of flights.

Past eruptions

March eruption in Lewotobi Lakilaki forced several airlines to cancel or postpone flights to Bali. Last November eruption, in turn, claimed at least nine victims of life. At the same time, thousands of people evacuated from the surroundings.

Indonesia is located in an area with high seismic activity, also known as the Pacific Fire Circle. The explosion of volcanoes is therefore quite common – there are about 130 active volcanoes in the territory of this archipelago.
