The National Congress is expected to move this week to take action on billionaire fraud at the National Institute of Social Security (INSS). On Tuesday (20), the House of Representatives should vote the urgency of a project that prohibits automatic discounts for social security benefits.
In the Senate, the expectation is that opposition parliamentarians will mobilize to find the president of the House and Congress, David Alcolumbre (Union-AP), and request the creation of a Mixed Parliamentary Commission of Inquiry (CPMI) to investigate the illegal discount scheme.
It is authored by Deputy Sidney Leite (PSD-AM) and has not yet had a designated rapporteur. If the urgency is approved, the project may be analyzed directly by the plenary, without undergoing thematic committees.
The prohibition suggested by the project refers to monthly fees of associations and other entities in the retirees and pensioners. The text was filed on April 24, one day after the Federal Police (PF) and the Union Comptroller General (CGU) revealed investigations against a billionaire fraud scheme in the INSS.
In justification of the text, Sidney Leite states that the prohibition of automatic discounts seeks to safeguard “the rights of the insured” and “ensure greater transparency and control over the amounts received”.
The House’s effort to analyze the proposal was announced by the president of the House, Hugo Motta (Republicans-PB), in a publication on social networks on Friday (16). In the deputy’s assessment, the INSS frauds are an urgent theme “for millions of Brazilians and the House of Representatives”.
INSS CPMI
In addition to the analysis of the bill in the House, deputies and senators intend to meet with the president of Congress, David Alcolumbre,
The agenda has been articulated by Senators Rogério Marinho (PL-RN), opposition leader in the Senate, and Damares Alves (Republicans-DF), one of those responsible for
The request that calls for the creation of the board was submitted on May 12, with 259 signatures, and depends on an alcohubre order to advance. Over the past week, the Damares team reported that another ten parliamentarians joined the request, which reached 269 signatures.
CPMI has been driven by opposition over the past few days. The group seeks to hold the government of Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva responsible (PT)
Although the Planalto Palace opposed to the collegiate, parliamentarians of the governing bench began to support the installation of CPMI, arguing that the investigation will serve to investigate the beginning of illegal discounts that, according to the Federal Police, began during the government of former President Jair Bolsonaro (PL).
As showed the CNNlast Friday,. Planalto’s position is still contrary to the installation.
