La Chimera mixes without adding anything

Once upon a time there was a game developer called GSC Game World. In fact, they still exist and launched recently. It doesn’t matter. And what does this have to do with La Chimera? Calm down, let’s get there. Long ago, dissatisfied employees abandoned the GSC Game World. A faction of these employees founded the one that became famous for the excellent Metro franchise. Another faction of these employees founded Deep Shadows, responsible for catastrophic Boiling Point and its continuation White Gold. If you don’t remember any of these two games, you are happy and it doesn’t matter either. The important thing is to know that the best developers of GSC Game World went to a studio and others not so much for another studio.

Those who do not know the story are condemned to repeat it and here we have the reburn, made up of former 4th Games employees. Unfortunately, your debut work falls short of all that has been produced before. La Quimera is an extremely generic, short and possibly unfinished title.

Nothing new on the front

No work is required to be a breath of inventiveness in their respective industry and formulas there are precisely because they were consecrated. However, there is no single La Chimera element that has not been explored better in other games. Its history exudes disinterest, starting with a long and narrative expository of a future cyberpunk where nations have listed, there are constant war-wide city and mercenary groups that feed these disputes. Your character is a recruit of one of these mercenary groups. The narrative does not improve: we get involved in a conspiracy, we are captured and reconfigured with exoeskeletons that offer special abilities. Crysis sends memories.

The reburn even tries to build an atmosphere for the player to care about this universe and its inhabitants, but immersion is disturbed by a predictable script, unlawful dialogues, oscillating voice acting and hateful characters. Some twists seek a greater meaning for everything, but they arrive too late to save the player from boredom, assuming the player was still paying attention to the plot.

It all ends in less than four hours. Supposedly, La Quimera would hit the market as a complete title. In the last minute, in the face of early negative criticism in the press, the independent team decided to reverse the plans for an early access launch. There is a promise of more chapters and an improved experience. There is not much to indicate a promising future for this journey, but nothing is impossible in this industry.

Shooting, beating and pump

So the idea here would be to sell lacmera for its mechanics? If the intention was this, the game does not deliver either. Your shooting is fragile, your skills are uninteresting. The title does not seem to know in which direction to go, to the point of having two tutorial sequences. Maybe La Quimera is more fun playing with friends, but which game is not more fun playing with friends?

Enemies are a recycling of the same opponents you have certainly faced before, such as the generic guerrilla, the generic corporate soldier, the generic flying robot and the generic robot. Although the maps are full of coverage points, the reburn has not even been concerned with adding a coverage system. The ammunition abounds the scenario, perhaps thinking of four players seeking recharge.

The reburn came out of the 4th Games taking the graphic engine of the Metro franchise and this is its biggest hit. Visually, the game can be spectacular at various times, albeit at the cost of performance. It is no use having the best graphic engine on the planet if the development team does not know how to optimize it or if the map generation decides to cling to each scenario with as much rubble as possible, debris, particles and details that the memory supports. The result is a visual pollution in the fighting and exploration, with frames of frames and increased GPU temperature in the process.

In his current state, La Quimera does not excite. It can be an option for those who are very longed for a new Crysis or keep Call of Duty: Advanced Warfare in the heart as long as this imaginary player downloads his expectations.
