“Finally, there was an exchange of opinions on some international matters today, appealing to respect for humanitarian and international legislation in areas of conflict and a solution negotiated between the parties involved,” added the Holy See. Vance and Rubio were among the 200,000 people who attended on Sunday to Pope Leo XIV’s inaugural mass, in St. Peter’s Square.
Before being elected Pope, Leo XIV, who also has Peruvian nationality, reposed in his account on the social network X comments critical to Donald Trump’s government for his migratory policy, and also criticized Vance. But Vance, who converted to Catholicism in 2019, said on Sunday that the United States is “very proud” of PREVOST. “Certainly, our prayers are with him the moment he starts such an important job,” Vance said at a meeting with European Commission Chairman Ursula Von Der Leyen, and Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni.
