Minister of Agriculture says the decision may come out in 28 days if there are no new cases, but asks for caution in expectations
The Minister of Agriculture, said on Tuesday (20.MAI.2025) that the Brazilian government remains in dealings with authorities from China to regionalize the restrictions imposed on chicken meat exports after confirming a case of avian flu in a commercial farm in Montenegro (RS).
The goal is to limit the embargo to a radius of 10 km from the focus of the disease. According to Fávaro, Brazil has formally requested from the GACC (General Administration of Customs of China) that the suspension of purchases affects only poultry products originated in the immediate vicinity of the outbreak. The request was sent by the Brazilian Embassy in Beijing on Monday (19.MAI).
According to Fávaro, the president (PT) made a direct appeal to the president of China, Xi Jinping, for the sanctions to be reduced. The minister stressed that there are positive signs, but asked caution.
“We have to be very careful to pronounce now. We need transparency in driving. There is evidence that it can be regionalized, but 5 days is very little time for them to feel confident to regionalize.”said during a meeting of the FPA (Parliamentary Front of Agriculture).
