Jim Morrison’s bust, missing since May 1988, was recently discovered by chance during searches related to an investigation by the Paris Judicial Police Financial Brigade and Anti -Corruption.
The sculpture was stolen from the Père-lachaise cemetery, where the lead singer of The Doors is buried. It had been placed on the tomb in 1981, in the tenth anniversary of his death, which occurred in 1971. The play was created by Croatian artist Mladen Mikulin and became a symbol for the admirers of the American singer.
The discovery took place as part of a parallel investigation conducted under the direction of the Paris Public Prosecution Service. Police revealed the recovery of sculpture through a publication on social networks, underlining its symbolic value.
The bust has visible damage, such as the party nose and several inscriptions made with paint, which were already in the play at the moment they disappeared.
Benoît Gallot, curator of the Père-Lachaise Cemetery, told the French newspaper Le Figaro that Jim Morrison’s tomb remains the most visited of the cemetery. He also added that he was not contacted by the authorities and does not know if the bust will return to the place of origin.
