The president Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva (PT) award this Tuesday (20) the first lady Janja da Silva, singer Xuxa and 110 people and 14 institutions with the Order of Cultural Merit (WTO), considered the largest honor in the sector. The delivery takes place at Gustavo Capanema Palace in Rio de Janeiro.
The ceremony also marks the return of honor, which was suspended in 2019, under the government of former President Jair Bolsonaro (PL) and the 40th anniversary of the Ministry of Culture, which has as its theme “Democracy and Culture”.
According to the Ministry of Culture, the winners were chosen through a digital form open to indications of society.

Controversy surrounds janja
Last week, the first lady was criticized after talking directly with China President Xi Jinping about Tiktok’s regulation in Brazil.
At the time, Janja would have said that the algorithms of the Chinese social network favor the growth of the far right in the country. The conversation was leaked to the press by a minister, who played the situation as a breach of protocol.
On Monday (19), the first lady defended herself from the accusations and said she does not admit that someone says to “silent”.
“There is no protocol to shut up if I have an opportunity to talk about it with anyone, the highest degree to the lowest level, from the highest level to any ordinary citizen,” Janja said in a speech at the opening of the National Week to Confront Sexual Violence against Children and Adolescents.
