The first session of hearings with witnesses of the 2022 coup plot in the (Supreme Federal Court) on Monday (19) had a clash of the minister with the lawyer of former Justice Minister Eumar Novacki.
The defender asked the former army commander, General Marco Antonio Freire Gomes, who of the prosecution in the process.
After a sequence of questions, the minister caught the lawyer’s attention.
“The Lord has asked the same thing four times. The witness has replied. We are not here to do circus. I will not allow you to circle in my court,” said the minister.
Novacki asked Freire Gomes about the meetings in which former President Jair Bolsonaro (PL) would have presented alternatives to a coup after the election of (PT).
“It was presented a draft to the Lord and you would have remembered that it was the same draft discussed at the meeting, can you have that certainty?” He asked.
“The general content. […] I do not remember ipsis litteris of the documents, “replied Freire Gomes.
“Did you know that this same draft found in the residence of the former minister had been distributed to several authorities and even on the internet?”
“No, Lord”.
“Is it possible that you have seen it elsewhere, have been confused?” Asked Novacki.
“No, because this document was presented at the meeting on the 7th,” said Freire Gomes.
Moraes countered right now. “It’s no use asking the same question six times to try the witness to change,” said the rapporteur.
The lawyer replied that the clarification would be important to the defense and that it was proceeding in the same way that the accusation had done shortly before.
“I’m not doing anything different from what PGR did,” he said.
The former army chief told the PF that the document presented by Bolsonaro had identical content to the draft decree found at the house of former Justice Minister Anderson Torres-also defendant for the coup plot.
Freire Gomes’s testimony was one of the bases of the PGR complaint against the central core of the coup plot. The general’s revelations became public in March 2024.
The testimony phase of witnesses began this Monday with more than 80 people listed to be heard by the Supreme in two weeks of audiences. The first deponents are those chosen by PGR.
