PL 4,206 of 2020 amends the Environmental Crimes Law and prevents the realization for aesthetic purposes; It is on the Plenary’s agenda of this Thursday (20.mai)
Vota this Thursday (20.MAI.2025) a PL (bill) that alters the to prohibit tattoos and piercings in dogs and cats for sole aesthetic purposes.
The initiative of the detention penalty of 2 to 5 years, fine and prohibition of custody to those who perform or allow the realization of these practices.
Making tattoos and piercings on animals is a practice condemned by (Federal Council of Veterinary Medicine) and is already prohibited in the Federal District, states such as Rio de Janeiro and Pernambuco, and municipalities such as Juiz de Fora (MG) and Barra Mansa (RJ).
The project on the agenda classifies surgical interventions for aesthetic purposes such as animal abuse.
In the text of the original project, the author of the measure, the deputy (PRD-MG), said that “Freedom to tattoo the skin does not mean that we can make this decision by animals”. In his report, Lucas points out that the procedure of tattoos, painful in humans, can be even more in animals “given the smallest thickness of your skin. ”
In addition, it adds that “Tattoos expose animals to various complications, from the risks inherent in sedation procedures, allergic reactions to ink and the material used in tattooing, dermatitis, infections, scars, burns, chronic irritation and, in some cases, even necrosis of the skin”.
If the text is approved in the plenary without changes in merit, it will go to presidential sanction.
