Hungary comes out of ICC, Parliament approved the proposal of Zsolta Semjéna. The government claims that the court is disturbed by conflict resolution.
On Tuesday, the Hungarian Parliament approved the proposal of Deputy Prime Minister Zsolt Semjéna for the performance of Hungary from the International Criminal Court (ICC). Referring to the telex.hu server informs the TASR newsletter in Budapest.
134 deputies voted in favor of the proposal, 37 were against and seven legislators abstained.
Government decision
The head of the government office Gergely Gulyás announced on April 3 that the government decided to withdraw Hungary from ICC. Gulyás said that this court is a “respectable initiative”, but has recently become a “political body”.
“In recent years, the International Criminal Court has taken several decisions that have interfered with unresolved, ongoing conflicts, making it difficult for peace and the possibility of a permanent solution,” said the political director of the Hungarian Government Prime Minister Balázs Orbán on Facebook.
Last May, the head prosecutor ICC asked for the release of arrest warrants to Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and former defense Minister Joav Galanta and arrest warrants were also released on three Palestinian Hamas leaders for war crimes and crimes against humanity. Finally, in November 2024, the warrant was issued to the Israeli Prime Minister, whose Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orbán invited to Hungary on the same day, recalls the server 24.hu.
