Video: Lula is received with boos in the mayor’s march – 05/20/2025 – Power

The president (PT) was received by mayors from all over the country with boos and applause, during the opening of the 26th March of Mayors, held in Brasilia. The reaction, in which managers showed dissatisfaction with the government.

In this edition, Lula again ignored the demonstrations and spoke normally.

The March of Mayors takes place every year, organized by CNM (National Confederation of Municipalities), and brings together thousands of mayors, councilors, secretaries and other municipal managers.

The event began on Tuesday (20) and continues until Thursday (22) with panels with topics such as climate federation, public safety, guidelines on parliamentary amendments, health and education.

One of the main demands of the category at this time is the approval of PEC 66, which is processed in Congress and aims to establish the payment of precatory by the municipalities and open a new deadline for payment of the municipal debts with their own social security regimes.

In the past edition, the boos to Lula occurred in a context of dissatisfaction of municipal management that claimed the exemption in their payroll.

The event was attended by the Esplanada ministers, in addition to the presidents of the Chamber, (Republicans-PB), and Senate, (Brazil-AP Union).

In his speech, Hugo Motta told the mayors that PEC 66 is one of the guidelines that are in the field of vision of the legislature and made speeches praising municipalism.

Before Lula, CNM President Paulo Ziulkoski spoke about the demands of the mayors and suggested that Lula “opened the eye” by criticizing the limit imposed on parliamentary amendments by (Federal Supreme Court).

The sending of the amendments is of interest to the municipalities, as it is a submission of money made by federal deputies to their states.
