Attorney General’s Office accused two generals, three colonels and six lieutenants-colonels
The Federal Supreme Court (STF) accepted the complaint against nine military and a police accused of planning the murder of Brazilian President Lula da Silva and other authorities as part of a coup plan.
The accused allegedly planned to murder Lula da Silva after their victory in the October 2022 elections as part of a plan to keep Jair Bolsonaro, who was defeated in his candidacy for reelection, in power, according to the complaint filed by the Attorney General’s Office.
The plan also included the death of the then elected vice-president, Geraldo Alckmin, and Judge Alexandre de Moraes, at the time president of the Superior Electoral Court.
The Attorney General’s Office has accused two generals, three colonels and six lieutenants, all in the reserve, and mostly former members of the trained elite force for special operations.
However, the accusations against two of them, General Nilton Diniz Rodrigues and Lieutenant Colonel Cleverson Magalhães were not accepted and the first class of the Supreme Court unanimously considered that there were not enough evidence against them.
According to the Federal Police, responsible for the investigation, Bolsonaro himself had “full knowledge” of the plan, something he vehemently denied, as well as the ten suspects accused on Tuesday.
The accusations against these defendants were accepted a day after the first class began to interrogate the witnesses of the case against Bolsonaro and seven of their collaborators.
