Commerce and Industry Choose Ambassador in Angola for the Economic Diplomat of the Year

The Portuguese Ambassador in Angola, Francisco Alegre Duarte, was chosen this year by the Portuguese Chamber of Commerce and Industry (CCIP) to receive the economic diplomat award of the year.

“The choice is essentially for the support for the internationalization of Portuguese companies and the promotion of the image of Portugal,” CCIP President Nuno Magalhães told Lusa, noting that the choice of Portuguese Diplomacy Chief in Angola “aligned perfectly with this year’s Growth Forum theme, which is dedicated to Africa.”

The theme of the forum that takes place this week “is Africa, and therefore has all the logic to choose the ambassador, which stands out for the role in deepening the relations between Portugal and Angola, namely at the economic level,” added the leader of the CCC.

Awarded “in consensus with the diplomatic institute, which annually recognizes the head of diplomatic mission that most stood out for the results in supporting the internationalization of Portuguese companies and promoting the image of Portugal”, this year’s award will be delivered on Thursday during the meeting dedicated to Africa.

The choice has been coordinated by the Diplomatic Institute of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, but this year’s Forum introduces some changes that reverberate in the coming years: “From this year, the award is delivered to the business forum, not the economic forum, and a value of five thousand euros is awarded that the award -winning will allocate to his choice,” said Nuno Magalhães.

Francisco Alegre Duarte was born in 1973 in Algeria and is a career diplomat. Degree in Law from the University of Coimbra, it has a postgraduate degree in International Relations from the Higher Institute of Social and Political Sciences of the Technical University of Lisbon, and was a fellow of the United Nations Institute for Training and Research at Columbia University in New York.

Since the beginning of his diplomatic career, in 1998, he has worked in various missions abroad, including Timor-Leste, New York (along with the United Nations), Angola and Italy, and has been ambassador in Angola since March 1, 2022.
