The president () commented again on Tuesday (20) about the scammers of January 8 and praised the role of artists in the maintenance of democracy in the event of delivery of the Order of Cultural Merit, recognition to those who contributed to Brazilian culture in Rio de Janeiro.

He stated that “thanks to you, we can keep democracy chapenging, but democracy walking,” and stressed that the democratic regime is a continuous construction of society. For the agent, the Brazilians repelled the attempt to break institutional after the invasion of the Three Powers Square.

The speech took place at Gustavo Capanema Palace, in the center of the state capital, in an event that also celebrated the 40th anniversary of and the reopening of the modernist building, which was closed a decade ago.

“The artist cannot only depend on the federal government money. Parliamentarians have $ 40 billion in amendments a year. We need to convince them that culture is also a priority,” he said.

Among those honored with this year’s WTO are the actress, director Walter Salles, the writer and 110 personalities and 14 outstanding institutions of Brazilian culture.

The recipients were recognized in three different degrees: Grand Cross, for the greatest distinctions; Commander, for prominent contributions; and Knight, for relevant contributions in their areas.

Fernanda Torres and Walter Salles were honored with Great Cross after winning the first best international film for Brazil, with. Marcelo Rubens Paiva, author of the book of the same name that inspired the film, also received the same award. The first lady Rosângela da Silva, the Janja, too.

“Brazilian culture has this strength, which is unbelievable, which was six years under attack, in silence, almost in darkness. Luckily, we all return to protagonism,” said Paiva, when honored.
