Economist Martin Kahanec was the first Slovak to be appointed as a member of the group of main scientific advisors (GCSA) of the European Commission (EC). Will provide independent scientific advice for European Commissioners to multiple topics including political issues and improve the quality of the European Union legislation (EU). TASR reports this according to the press release of the Central European Institute for Labor Research (Celsi).
The GCSA group consists of a maximum of seven advisors selected based on their expertise. Kahanca was nominated by the Slovak Economic Society. He was elected for three years, and its term of office can then be extended by another two years.
“This appointment is a personal honor for me, but also a recognition of inspiring academic communities, whom I am a proud member – within Celsius, University of Economics in Bratislava, CEU in Vienna, as well as in the wider European and international academic space. I look forward to contributing to the creation of evidence -based policies and emphasize the importance of social sciences in addressing the most pressing challenges of the present, ” Kahanec said.
