Conectas, an NGO dedicated to the defense of human rights, sent a letter to six UN special rapporteurs that accompany environmental and respectful themes to press the non -approval of one.

The appeal, written in Portuguese and English, says that the project, in Senate processing, “represents a significant socio -environmental threat due to.” The matter can be voted in the coming days by the senators.

“The bill in voting also runs the risk of deepening existing social inequalities,” says the letter, which states that eventual approval of the project will make the judicialization “inevitable”.

The main point of the proposal is to expand exemption situations in environmental licensing and allow the adoption of “self -decline” so that companies approve their own licenses without external supervision.

“By irresponsibly prioritizing licensing exemptions and self -decline, the proposal will aggravate environmental degradation, representing a serious threat to fundamental human rights,” says the NGO.

The document also asks that the UN rapporteurs speak with the federal government and Congress against the project and issue a joint note to the press, drawing attention to the severity of the situation.
