In a single day, São Paulo police starred in episodes of aggression and death during approaches in the south of the capital

On Sunday (18.MAI), 3 PMs assaulted a man with kicks and cassettete blows during a police approach in the south of the capital. The victim, who did not have his identity revealed, would have a stolen motorcycle. Images recorded by a witness show the man lying on the floor while beaten in the abdominal region.
On the same day, also in the south of São Paulo, a 19 -year -old was killed indoors after being chased for not stopping in a police blitz. According to the young man’s mother, he had gone out to buy medicine and did not stop for fear of losing his motorcycle, as he was without a helmet.
Cameras in Uniforms
The president of the Federal Supreme Court, Luís Roberto Barroso, approved on May 8 an agreement that expands the mandatory use of PM body cameras in São Paulo. The governor cited the agreement and said 15,000 equipment should be in use soon as a way to avoid police violence, which grew during his term.
Tarcisio was elected with a critical speech to the use of cameras. The governor, however, changed his mind publicly in December 2024. After cases of great repercussion, with explicit aggressions committed by PMs “Who even played a suspect from a bridge,” the Republican politician admitted that he was “Completely wrong” in their criticism of the use of the equipment.
