The Bolivian Supreme Election Commission banned former President Eva Morales to run for presidential elections in August. TASR reports on the basis of DPA report.
The Bolivian Constitutional Court has already ruled that one person has decided He may only be the president twice, which has practically banned Morales to run because it led the country from 2006 until 2019. Moreover, it was not correctly registered as a candidate because his party was canceled, the court said.
The Commission also temporarily rejected the candidacy of the 36-year-old chairman of the Senate Andrónica Rodríguez for the formality. He only recently announced it and is considered a promising candidate left. The current President Luis Arce announced his decision not to run last week.
The candidate of the current government party for socialism (LAG) is former Interior Minister Eduardo del Castillo. The opposition candidates are former President Jorge Quiroga and businessman Samuel Doria Medina. Bolivia is currently swept in a serious economic crisis marked by a lack of foreign currency, fuel and increasing public dissatisfaction. The presidential elections are scheduled for 17 August in Bolivia.
