The Provincial Prosecutor of Valencia has decided to file the complaint filed last October for alleged homophobic conversion therapies in Diocesan schools. In a letter dated April 15, to which EFE has had access, the prosecutor who has examined the case has resolved that it is not possible to assert the existence of crime, although he has sent the actions to the Ministry of Education due to the possibility of incurring an administrative infraction.

. However, the prosecutor has not observed, in this case denounced by Compromís, “acts of incitement, promotion or favor of hate, violence or discrimination or hostility against the affected collective, in this case LGTBI people.”

“Investigated the facts by the National Police, no person has been identified who has undergone some type of conversion or reversion therapy by the denounced, so there is no victim of any police identified whose dignity or moral integrity has been injured or undermined,” adds the prosecutor in her letter.

However, on a website of those mentioned by Compromís, it does observe the Public Ministry that is in which homosexuality is presented as a product of traumas and an incorrect maturation, and the pastoral and therapeutic intervention is proposed to stop the causes and recover the natural heterosexual masculinity or femininity.

That is why, the prosecutor considers that the competent regional authority must determine whether or not there is an administrative infraction of Law 23/2018 of Equality of LGTBI persons in the Valencian Community. This law contemplates as a very serious lack of realization, dissemination or promotion of conversion therapies or pseudotherapies aimed at modifying sexual orientation or identity.

On February 11, the Archbishop of Valencia, Enrique Benavent, suspended the activity of the Mater Misericordiae Family Orientation Center, on which Compromís denounced that it was “one of the neuralgic nuclei of conversion therapies”, and announced that “an in -depth review of its activities and a structural reform” would be carried out.

The archbishopric reported on this decision in a statement in which the complaint of Compromís was not alluded to and where he explained that the determination to review the activities of this center and its reform had meant the resignation of its director, Federico Mulet, which had been accepted by Benavent.
