The tragedy in the Lamans Strait claimed the lives of a woman and an eight -year -old boy. The French Navy helped migrants on a small ship.
A woman and an eight -year -old boy died on Wednesday when attempting to unauthorized night -time cruise through the Laman Strait from France, the French Navy said. The victims were found unconscious on board a small boat with almost 80 migrants in the north of France, reports TASR based on AP and AFP reports.
According to AFP, both victims came from Turkey. The French navy vessel, in addition to them, took on board ten other people who asked for a rescue and transported them to the French port of Calais. The remaining persons on board the boat then continued to the British waters.
Risk incidents are increasing
According to the French authorities, the number of deaths on this risky migration route has risen to at least three this week. At the beginning of the week, one person died and another declared missing after the boat and migrants overloaded and broke during the attempt to pass through the Laman Strait. According to the French naval authorities, the body of the missing person is not found.
The British government reported that in 2025, more than 12,500 people have reached the United Kingdom through the Laman Strait. According to AP, 14 people have died to the British territory this year.
