The celebration atmosphere at José Alvalade Stadium after Sporting’s two -time championship was marked by an unexpected episode: the theft of the original Women’s Champions League Cup.
During the festivities, a large group managed to access a reserved stadium area, where there were UEFA materials related to the female Champions final. Among the objects were balls, coats, clamps and the trophy for the winning team between Arsenal and Barcelona.
According to the PSP, the group will have broken into a grid to enter the restricted area, and many of those involved were hooded. Police have learned of the occurrence on Sunday morning and since then has been able to recover the cup and several other stolen articles, which have been returned to UEFA.
To date, 13 suspects have been identified, but the authorities admit that this number may increase as the investigation takes place.
The female Champions League final will take place next Saturday, at 5 pm, at José Alvalade Stadium, and puts in front of Arsenal and FC Barcelona, a team that has Portuguese International Kika Nazareth, currently injured.
