Term is used to label military military personnel; Baptista Júnior reported attacks on rejecting coup plan in 2022
Former Aeronautics Commander Carlos Almeida Baptista Júnior stated, in a statement given to the Supreme Court (STF) on Wednesday (21.MAI.2025), that it is still the target of attacks on social networks for refused to support an attempt to coup after the 2022 elections.
According to the military, users publish offenses and call him “watermelon” – Pejorative term used to refer to members of the Armed Forces considered friendly to the left. The expression alludes to the color of the fruit: green on the outside, in reference to the military uniform, and red inside, associated with communism and the PT (Workers Party) of the president.
The statement was made in response to a question by the general’s lawyer, who questioned him about the attacks mentioned during the statement.
Baptista Júnior is one of the witnesses called to testify in the action for attempted coup in the Supreme. He was nominated as a witness to the prosecution made by PGR (Attorney General’s Office), former Navy Commander Almir Garnier, Bolsonaro and former Defense Minister Paulo Sérgio Nogueira.
The testimonies of the witnesses of the so -called core 1 of the investigation are scheduled for June 2. On Thursday (22.MAI), they must testify the witnesses indicated by the defense of Lieutenant Colonel Mauro Cid, former Assistant of Bolsonaro Orders, from 8am.
