STF Minister defends national autonomy after the US is considering Human Rights Sanctions against Moraes
The Minister of the Supreme Court (STF), Gilmar Mendes, defended on Thursday (22.MAI.2025) the regulation of digital platforms as an essential pillar of national sovereignty. The statement comes after US Secretary of State Marco Rubio claimed on Wednesday (21.MAI) that the government of President Donald Trump (Republican Party) analyzes to apply sanctions against STF Minister Alexandre de Moraes for violation of human rights.
In response, Gilmar emphasized: “It cannot be assumed that foreign agents surround the exercise of domestic jurisdiction in the protection of constitutional guarantees. Normative autonomy represents imperative of democratic self -determination.”
