A group of clubs from Series A and B announced on Wednesday (21) that will not participate in the election for the presidency of the CBF (Brazilian Football Confederation) on Sunday (25).

The decision is a protest against conducting the vote. The information was released in a note signed by representatives of América-MG, Athletico-PR, Atletico-GO, Botafogo-SP, Chapecoense, Corinthians, Coritiba, Cruzeiro, Cuiabá, Flamengo, Fluminense, Fortaleza, Goiás, International, Youth, Mirassol, Novorizontino, Santos, Sao Paulo and Sport.

“The future of Brazilian football needs to be based on democracy, transparency and representativeness,” says the statement. “This Sunday, there will be election for the next president of the Brazilian Football Confederation (CBF), but we will not attend the vote for disagreeing with the current process.”

Club representatives also said they will be ready to talk to the new management to discuss how to change the electoral process and present other demands.

Samir Xaud, 41, is a single candidate in the election that will define the new CBF president.

The date of the election was determined by Fernando Sarney, one of the entity’s vice-presidents, appointed intervener in the confederation after the vacuum left by Ednaldo Rodrigues, 71, removed from the presidency by decision of the Rio de Janeiro Court.
