The choice of vegetation for the garden is a real challenge. It is worth looking at the Middle East specimens – they will successfully decorate our property. This is the Persian chessboard, which will wonderfully complement the discounts with its dark inflorescences.

Persian chessboard is a onion plantbelonging to the lily family. It naturally grows in the Middle East, but is doing great in our conditions.

This specimen releases long, green stems, measuring 80-120 cm, on which lanceolate, twisted leaves grow from half. The most popular variety has dark, purple, bell -shaped fruiting bodiesfrom a distance looking black. The “Ivory Bells” variety with light flowers in shades of yellow and white is also noteworthy.

The plant blooms from April to May. Small bell -shaped flowers form groups. One can find up to 50 pieces. They have a characteristic smell, repelling and voles.

Persian chessboard is a perennial perennial that is resistant to frosts. That is why it is enough to plant it only once in the garden to grow in it for many years.

It will match discounts, edges of the surface, but also to separate places on the lawn and to rock gardens. The dark flowers of the Persian chessboard look great with colorful plants, but also with such blooming white and slightly pink. Thanks to it, the compositions gain expressiveness.

We plant the Persian chessboard on a fertile, sandy, transmitted soil with a pH of 7. If it has a too sour reaction, it should be calcified. In turn, with an alkaline reaction, it is best to mix it with acid peat.

We plant the onions into the soil to a depth of about 10-15 cm, maintaining the distance between them at least 15 cm. It is best to blow them up in autumn, and more precisely in October and November.

This perennial will best grow in a sunny or slightly shaded position. It is important that it is shielded from the wind.

In the spring, when the flower growth period is underway, we must water the occasion regularlywhile in the summer you can do it less often. The soil should be moist, but we do not pour it, because then there will be a development of rot or gray mold of bulbs.

An important procedure in the growing season is weeding. In spring, we also recommend feeding the surface of a Persian chessboard with organic fertilizers. We can also mulch the soil.

After flowing, we do not remove the stems, because at this time the plant accumulates nutrients in the onions. Getting rid of dried parts will not be safe only at the end of July.
