Hundreds of immigrants were already this Thursday, at 08:00, at the door of the Directorate-General for Consular Affairs and Portuguese Communities, in Lisbon, which only opens at 09:00. There are even those who have spent the night on the street to get one of the first places in line.
In recent days, services have only been able to serve about 30/40 people.
Many immigrants try to obtain a certificate regarding criminal record. Because without this document, they cannot start the AIMA process of legalization in Portugal.
“I’ve been here yesterday, I left at 22:00”
Several people spent the night at the garden benches in front of the Directorate-General for Consular Affairs and Portuguese Communities.
“I left to take it at ten at night, I arrived at Midnight and here I am because it is the only solution. From the times I left to take it in the first train from 5:00 am, I could no longer be answered,” one lady tells SIC.
Queues are repeated in Porto
In Porto, the situation of long queues is repeated. This Thursday, close to 250 people await a password, hoping to be attended during the day.
As in Lisbon, there were also those who slept at the door of the services of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
“I have been here for two days. It has been a huge struggle,” Jessica António told SIC.
