São Paulo, SP (Folhapress)-Part of the Fengyang drum tower, built in 1375, collapsed on Monday (19). Visitors who were at the tourist spot had had to flee while hundreds of tiles loosened from the roof and fell from a height of more than two floors.

The tower of more than 600 years dates from the beginning of the Ming Dynasty and was used to announce the beginning of ceremonies and mark the hours of the day. The important tourist attraction of Anhui province is about 320 kilometers from Beijing, the capital of China, and is one of the largest in the country.

In the video, you can see the tiles sliding from the roof and falling to the floor, raising a large cloud of dust -all recorded from various angles. Tourists present at the site were seen moving away and filming the scene. No one was injured.

The accident lasted about two minutes and its causes are still under investigation, according to local authorities.

The collapse occurred a year after the tower was renovated because of light damage to the roof. The reconstruction cost about $ 500,000 (more than $ 2.8 million) and the proximity between the delivery of the reform and the collapse generated outrage.

A witness told the Beijing News newspaper that he was in a store at the entrance of the tower when he heard the sound of falling tiles. “Fortunately, at that moment, there was no one in the square and no one was injured. If it were a little later, there would be many children going out to play after dinner,” he said.
