Nuno Melo considers that it is time to value the country’s interest above the “party interest”, arguing that the result of Sunday’s legislatures demonstrated, “clearly”, that the political crisis was “completely excused”.
On the way out of Belém, where he was meeting Thursday with the President of the Republic, Nuno Melo regrets that the governance cycle was “irresponsibly interrupted” and states that the priority at this time is political stability and the formation of the new government.
The CDS leader argues that AD’s victory reinforced the “legitimacy and credibility” of the government and the Prime Minister and illustrates the will of the country of stability.
“Portugal wants stability and a government to continue to solve the problems of the Portuguese,” he says.
Asked about the constitutional revision process already announced by IL, he recalls that this is a right of deputies and that the CDS “always presented” projects in each of the seven processes in the last 50 years.
However, the priority at this time is the “Political stability” and “government formation”.
“When time comes [de debater a revisão constitucional]the CDS will have a public position – I do not anticipate judgments that have to be made by the party itself, involving direction and parliamentary group, ”he says.
The President of the Republic receives this Thursday three more parties with parliamentary seat: PCP, CDS e BE. They are missing to listen to Pan and JPP, and Marcelo Rebelo de Sousa has already known that he will call PSD, PS and arrives next week, for a second round of hearings.
