The names were confirmed in nominal vote; Now President Lula will be communicated
The Senate approved this Wednesday (21.MAI.2025) 5 names indicated for positions of Brazilian ambassadors abroad. The President (PT) will be reported on the decision of the High House.
The indicated names, which had already been sabbathed in the (Foreign Relations Commission), were approved, in nominal vote, to be ambassadors of the following countries:
- Rodrigo de Lima Baena Soares – Germany (with 41 favorable votes);
- Paulo Uchôa Ribeiro Filho – Saudi Arabia and cumulatively in Republic of Yemen (with 40 favorable votes).
- Eduardo Paes Saboia – Austria (with 41 favorable votes);
- Sérgio Rodrigues dos Santos – Russia and cumulatively in Republic of Uzbekistan (with 42 favorable);
- André Veras Guimarães – Iran (with 38 favorable votes);
Sabbath of Ambassadors
Those appointed by the President of the Republic for the position of Brazilian Ambassador abroad are chosen among ministers of 1 or 2nd class of Itamaraty.
After the appointment is published in the Official Gazette of the Unionthe process goes to the Federal Senate, where the name is analyzed by CRE.
It is up to the president of the board to designate a senator responsible for presenting the curriculum of the nominee and prepares a report on his candidacy. The commission then has a deadline to evaluate the case.
Then, a session for Sabbath is scheduled, at which time the senators interview the candidate, questioning him about his training, as well as addressing real or hypothetical scenarios and discussing his posture before the country for which he can be designated.
Then the names go to be voted in plenary session at the upper house and need to have 41 senators to appreciate the nominees. If approved, the President of the Republic is informed.
