Two advisers from the Israeli embassy were shot and killed outside an event at the capital’s Jewish Museum in Washington on Wednesday night, government officials said.
“Two employees of the Israeli embassy were killed tonight near the Jewish museum in Washington DC,” wrote Kristi Noem, secretary of internal security on social networks. “We are actively investigating and working for more information to share. Please pray for the families of the victims.”
Attorney General Pam Bondi posted on social networks that she was “at the venue of the horrible shooting outside the Jewish museum of the Washington capital, DC, along with the US interim prosecutor in Washington, Jeanine Pirro.


Such Naim Cohen, a spokesman for the Israeli embassy, wrote on social networks that the two employees were shot “at close range.”
Ted Deutch, chief executive of the American Jewish Committee, confirmed that his group hosted the event and said: “We are devastated that an indescribable act of violence has occurred outside the place.” He said the group’s employees were thinking “only” in the injured and their families.
The event was described online as a “reception of young AJC Access diplomats” designed to bring together “young Jewish professionals” between 22 and 45 years old, as well as the Washington diplomatic community.

Kash Patel, FBI’s director, said his office was working with staff from the Metropolitan Police Department to investigate the case, adding that more updates would come as the information became available.
FBI field office employees in Washington have posted on social networks that “there is no continuous threat to public safety.”
There was no immediate information about who was behind the shooting.

Senator Chuck Schumer, New York Democrat and Minority Leader, posted on social networks: “This disgusting shooting seems to be another horrible example of anti -Semitism that, as we know, is very unbridled in our society. I am praying for those who have been killed, all affected and their families.”
