Two employees of the Israel Embassy in Washington (United States capital) have been shot dead on Wednesday night, near a Jewish museum, as reported by the Secretary of National Security, Kristi Noem, cites Reuters.
Noem announced the deaths in an X publication after the shooting in front of the Jewish Museum of the capital, located a few steps from the FBI office in the capital of the country.
Attorney General Pam Bondi declared that he was in the place of the events, accompanied by former Jeanine Pirro, who serves as a federal prosecutor in Washington.
Such Naim Cohen, spokesman for the Israel Embassy in Washington, declared that staff members were shot dead while attending a Jewish event in the Jewish Museum of Washington DC “we have full confidence that the police authorities, both local and federal, will stop the shooter and protect the representatives of Israel and the Jewish communities of the United States,” he said.
The FBI director, Kash Patel, said he and his team had been informed about the shooting. “While we work with the Metropolitan Police Department to respond and obtain more information, immediately, we beg you to pray for the victims and their families,” he wrote in X.
Danny Danon, Israel’s ambassador to the United Nations, described the shooting as a “depraved act of anti -Semitic terrorism.”
Police offered no details on Wednesday night about a possible reason for the shooting. A press conference was expected for the same day. “We trust that US authorities will take energetic measures against those responsible for this criminal act,” Danon said in an X. “Israel will continue to act with determination to protect their citizens and representatives, worldwide,” he says.
