Update
South African company Sibanye Stillwater is rescued to release 289 workers who were arrested in the Kloof 7 gold mine, located near Johannesburg, second.
“We can confirm that we had an incident in the Kloof 7 well and we are busy with the wells of safety and inspection of the well, after which we will do the employees to the surface,” said a Sibanye spokesman.
The incident occurred around 10:00 pm – local time – Thursday (21:00 in mainland Portugal), as reported by the National Union of Miners (Num).
The spokesman also confirmed that all workers are safe and that the company is providing food.
“We hope the situation will be resolved around noon [hora local]”He added.
