Fire in heavy goods forces traffic diversion in IC2

A collision between a heavy goods and a light vehicle in the IC2 in the Alcobaça river Charneca area resulted in two injuries and a fire in the truck.

Traffic was diverted on Supplementary itinerary 2 (IC2), in the Alcobaça region, to kilometer 87, due to a collision that caused a fire in a heavy goods, Civil Protection told Lusa.

A spokesman for the Western Subregional Command of the National Emergency and Civil Protection Authority (Anepc) said the alert was given at 03:08 due to a collision between the heavy and a slight passenger car.

From the incident, which took place in the Charneca do Rio Seco area, in the parish of Turquel, municipality of Alcobaça, district of Leiria, resulted two injured.

The light driver was taken to the hospital with slight injuries, while the heavy driver was assisted on the spot.

The Anepc spokesman said the collision originated a fire in the heavy goods.

At 05:45, there were still 18 operational and eight vehicles on the ground, especially trying to remove the load, to restore circulation in the IC2, the same source explained.

The spokesman indicated that traffic is being diverted to secondary roads.
