Government analyzes 12 possible cases of aviary flu in Brazil

The Ministry of Agriculture updated, at 19h of this Thursday (22.MAI.2025), the number of cases in investigation for aviary flu in Brazil. Now, with 5 suspected cases of IAAP (high pathogenicity aviary), identified in the municipalities of Icapuí (CE), Ilhéus (BA), Castle (ES), Capela de Santana (RS), and 1 new case in Eldorado do Carajás (PA), and 2 Descartes, the total was 12.

The cases discarded since the 5 pm update of this 5th were Chapecó (SC) – Domestic Gall for Subsistence – and Garopaba (SC) – Free Life Wildlife.

This is the situation of cases in Brazil according to the last update of the map, at 19h of this 5th:

Sanitary emptiness

The official veterinary service concluded that of the area in Montenegro (RS) where a focus of avian flu was confirmed in a commercial bird production. From this Thursday (22.MAI.2025), the region enters a period of 28 days of sanitary emptiness, as required by international protocols.

If no new case is recorded in this interval, it means that the influenza transmission cycle has been broken. Thus, Brazil will be able to self -declarate free from the disease in the region.

Korean South Inspection

The government of South Korea to inspect chicken meat refrigerators. The visit is scheduled to be made from June 1st to 13th and is a requirement of Seoul to rehabilitate Brazilian exporters who had suspended shipments after confirming a case of Avian flu in Montenegro (RS). The delegation requested a survey in 3 units in Paraná, previously nominated by the Mapa (Ministry of Agriculture), for logistics reasons.

On Wednesday (21.MAI.2025), Russia flexed the suspension of the importation of chicken meat and derivatives from Brazil, keeping the embargo only to the products of Rio Grande do Sul. The decision was communicated to the Ministry of Agriculture by the Federal Veterinary Surveillance and Russian Surveillance Service.

Commission wants to hear Fávaro

Also on Tuesday (20.MAI), the Senate Agriculture Commission approved an application, Carlos Fávaro, on cases of aviary flu in Brazil. Here’s (PDF – 324 kb).

Because it is an invitation, Fávaro is not required to go. It is usual, however, that the ministers accept. The date will still be scheduled.
