Caixa Econômica Federal and the Federal Government announced this Thursday (22), in an event in São Paulo, the renewal of sponsorship to the CPB (Paralympic Committee of Brazil). The partnership, which began in 2004, was extended to the 2025-2028 cycle, which culminates in the Los Angeles Paralympic Games.
The new contract has a value of R $ 160 million and provides “financial and structural support for over 120 athletes and 18 paralympic modalities”. “It is a resource that is not only intended for high performance athletes,” said Caixa President Carlos Vieira.
“Athletes are only sponsored when they become famous, but often no one raised their finger so that person could take their first step,” said President Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva (PT). “I see that nothing is impossible for the human being when he wants to do things.”
The announcement was made at the Brazilian Paralympic Training Center, on the Imigrantes Highway, in São Paulo. During the event, Lula stated that a project to implement a University of Sport is in preparation.
According to the chief executive, however, the model to be implemented still undergo debates. “The idea was that initially it was a college of football, but we are discussing that,” he said.
According to Sports Minister André Fufuca, also present at the event, the project should be touched by the end of 2026 and occupy the site of an existing public university. The proposal is being prepared in partnership with the Ministry of Education and should be presented to the president within 30 days.
“I believe we will use a university that already exists and then make poles across the country,” said the minister. “Our perspective is to be delivered in this mandate [de Lula] and that is public. “
